Environmental policy

Quality and care for the environment.

Products from Thetford comply with all legal requirements in all European countries. All of our products were tested for their functionality. Moreover, many of our products are tested for their biodegradability and suitability for waste treatment plants.

End users, camping organisations and government bodies all acknowledge the high standard and quality of Thetford products. Moreover, many of our products have been certified in various countries for their high level of environmental consciousness.

Our environmental policy is driven by the following basic principles:

  • Sustainable development (production without causing unacceptable harmful ecological impact).
  • Prevention (avoid potential problems instead of fixing them).
  • Communication and co-operation (with customers, governmental and non-governmental organizations, suppliers and other stakeholders).
  • Life cycle approach (from raw materials, to manufacturing, to use and disposal of our products).

We continuously optimize the environmental performance of our products and activities, taking into account the technical and economical viability of the underlying objectives:

  • We strive to reduce use of water and energy in the manufacturing process, to reduce emissions to air and water, and to limit the amount of waste.
  • We strive to reduce, and if possible eliminate, environmentally hazardous substances from our products.
  • We strive to make life cycle assessment studies an integral part of the product development process.
  • We maintain an environmental management system as a part of our ISO 9001:2015 certified management system, audited by means of a systematic, documented verification process to ensure continuous improvement.
  • We commit ourselves to complying with all applicable laws, directives and regulations.
  • We communicate our environmental policy to our employees and other interested parties, and publish the results of our environmental activities in environmental reports.
  • We educate our employees to work within the boundaries defined by the Thetford environmental policy.

UK Waste Electrical and Electroniq Equipment

The UK Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) 2013 Regulations (available online) require the UK to maximise the separate collection, reuse and recycling of WEEE. The UK WEEE Regulations applies to all Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) placed on the UK market that are covered by the scope of these Regulations.

Thetford Limited meets these requirements. As an importer and manufacturer, Thetford Limited is a producer, but not a distributor of EEE.

Under the UK WEEE Regulations, “Producers” are required to mark all relevant EEE with a “crossed-out wheelie bin” symbol to remind consumers not to discard WEEE in the domestic waste stream. Thetford Limited encourages all its customers to make note of this symbol and avoid putting any WEEE in your domestic waste bin(s) or container(s).

Thetford Limited supports the reuse and recycling of WEEE as there are several environmental benefits of doing so, such as reduction of raw material and energy usage, prevention of landfill, prevention of hazardous and/or toxic materials present in some WEEE contaminating the environment.

As a Producer under the UK WEEE Regulations, Thetford Limited complies with its Producer Obligations by being registered as a Member of the Wastecare WEEE Producer Compliance Scheme and obtaining the WEEE Producer Registration Number – WEE/MM5080AA

Wastecare WEEE producer compliance scheme is operated by Wastecare Compliance Plc, registration number 06043169. The Scheme is approved by the Environment Agency, registration number WEE/MP3538PZ/SCH.
