Norcold “Freedom Unplugged” Campaign Gives “Real” RV Refrigerator Benefits

SIDNEY, Ohio – Norcold recently launched a “Freedom Unplugged” campaign to illustrate the benefits of “real” RV refrigeration.

“Our refrigerators are specifically designed for RVs,” Norcold Product Manager Kevin Stover said. “They allow RVers to enjoy the best stops, which are often off the grid.”

A recent survey said the most important attributes RVers look for in a refrigerator are:

  • Keeping food cold and fresh
  • Large capacity
  • Built to withstand RV travel
  • Ability to run on propane as well as AC

“Norcold RV refrigerators excel in each area,” Stover said. “The ‘Freedom Unplugged’ campaign is designed to remind RVers that ‘real’ RV refrigerators will allow them to get the most enjoyment out of the RV lifestyle.”

He added that RV and residential refrigerators both operate on AC, but an RV refrigerator also operates on LP gas, incredibly significant for RVers.

“A residential refrigerator either needs a noisy and smelly generator or you must camp where there is a 50-amp AC hookup, preventing you from visiting our nation’s most beautiful sights,” Stover said. “Norcold models allow RVers to go wherever they want and enjoy the freedom they were looking for when purchasing their RV.”

Residential models may also need two extra batteries, solar power and/or generator – adding weight, cost and possibly noise. In addition, RVers with residential units face the hassle of constantly monitoring their battery life and charge. An RV refrigerator, however, automatically switches to LP if electricity is unavailable or needed for other appliances.

“Our products are designed specifically for the rigors of the road,” Stover said, “while residential units are made to sit in a climate-controlled kitchen.”

He added that Norcold models are vibration resistant. In contrast, a residential refrigerator has a noisy mechanical compressor subject to damage from road vibration. And, when the road takes its toll on a residential model, an owner may need to find a residential repairman.

The “Freedom Unplugged” campaign was featured on “Rollin’ on TV” and will be promoted in other media and online. Norcold refrigerators won a Reader’s Choice Silver Award from the readers of Trailer Life magazine in 2014.
